Carnival in the Baselland Region

Carnival – the “fifth season” of the year. Many villages host large carnival parades where piccolo players, drummers, marching bands (Guggenmusik), and float cliques (Wagencliquen) bring their themes to life. Additional traditions such as the Morgenstraich, Guggen concerts, and customs like the burning of the "Chluri" take place during the carnival days.

In the cantonal capital, Liestal, the Chienbäse procession offers a unique and spectacular fire event.

We will be happy to publish the overview for the next carnival in January 2026.
